Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone caught Dave Grohl's keynote speech at SXSW this year. Wish I could have been at the event in person, but the internet coverage will have to do for now. For anyone who'd like to watch the speech, it's on YouTube: http://youtu.be/Efv0Y5Fs7m4
As a musician, I found it both empowering and inspiring. I've always been a fan of his, even though most of his work is quite simple, especially the last Foo Fighter's album, but the riff's are awfully catchy! Not to mention how fun the songs are to cover on any instrument..well maybe not bass. Anyways, hopefully you guys will get something out of it too.
The most interesting part of it for me was gaining a little bit of insight in how Dave and the Foo Fighters license their music and still retain ownership. I always figured that whenever you get into the industry and have made it that big, you've basically sold your soul. But in fact, the way he describes in the speech is almost Fastlane. It's obvious he's been successful because he's set goals for himself all throughout his career and continues to push on.
I'm certainly a fan.
Cheers,
JB
By the way, Sound City is a great rockumentary, check it out!
