I'm just brainstorming ideas these days on how to get myself a great exciting project that would bring freedom for me (to work on what I like) and to my clients. And I'm thinking that musicians need freedom. Fcuk gatekeepers (labels)... I want to partner up with a programmer, designer, music specialist and create a platform for musicians to communicate with their fans and sell their records. This would free them from labels and give freedom.
Options for profit is either taking a percentage of total sales from digital downloads and merchandise sales or a flat monthly fee. Personally, I'd prefer percentage of sales though.
The platform would allow musicians to have a blog, videos, ecommerce shop, tweets, forums, contests on their web-site. Plus, it would allow fans to create profiles there and in that way form a small social network, which would allow them to build relationships and connections with fans. Which in return means more money for them.
Money transactions would go through PayPal or Credit Cards.
Along with providing this platform it is possible to branch out to promotion business or consultations for musicians.
Whatcha think so far? This is not the first try to make this I'm sure. But Google wasn't first search engine either....
Edit: Biggest challenge is to be similar to connect people with knowledge and experience in music business and programming to make the idea work. I gotta find music expert, programmer, designer or multiple of them and make it work. This must be done with no proven track record of successful businesses etc. That sucks, but it's not impossible. If Trump managed to buy real estate with no money than I can succeed too.
