Confused About Freedom Hyperreality

To paraphrase Unscripted , slavery is still legal and not where you think: it's legal in pretty much all (to my knowledge) first world countries. Taxation, visas and passports, license plates, etc. are good examples of this: good luck doing without this if you're traveling by car, plane, etc. or paying your taxes. But isn't this only true when there's not an election: in democratic first-world countries, what happens if there's a consensus to stop doing these things. I'm extremely confident this will never happen, and if it did all the hyperrealities would disappear, but still. When you're voting, don't you have some freedom in creating the future?

Voting changes very little about the future. People vote with idealism. The reality is, governments only like half-measures. There is always some balancing act they have to perform every time they try to move the bar.

Idealism never makes it to government.

You're right, if you work taxes out as time... you work the first 4-5 months of every year for free. For the government. As a slave.

Your freedom to vote is akin to choosing one of two cards, both of which are the same number.

Democracy only gives you the illusion of choice.
