Hello Everyone, My name is Daniel.
I just recently finished reading The Millionaire Fastlane . The book was a better business book than most of the others I have read in the past. Thank you @MJ DeMarco for writing the books, and for this forum. I need to do something to change the current way I have been living. Which really is the quintessential Sidewalk. In the past had been a bit on the slowlane but exited to "live" some, now though lots of parasitic debt. I was actually working towards going back to the slowlane before I found the book. Either way need to get back into control over my run away life, certainly need to be off the sidewalk.
Bit of Background:
Over the course of many years now I have been involved with computers in some shape, fashion or form. I am currently a technical lead in the devops space. Which basically revolves around programming ways to automate the management and deployment of large scales of servers. I work for a cloud provider and have pretty good working knowledge of how cloud providers work in general. Built web applications, primarily the backends as a software developer but some front end development as well. Also spent some time in the military working on electronic systems as a repair technician. There was also computer repair/rebuilding in there for quite some time. Pretty broad range over different areas of computers in general from hardware to software and everything in between. Did some work on video games as well, incidentally what my Bachelors degree is in is game software development. Generally a pretty technical person that is also pretty capable with building/repairing stuff.
Additionally I have tried to start a few different companies. I think that I had the wrong thinking in terms of each of those companies except maybe one.
One was going to build a game engine rather than games themselves. I think the idea is still probably sound today, it is an aspect of game development that is still obscenely difficult to work within. At the time though I had 2 other co-founders and very quickly found that they didn't have the same zeal even though they thought it was a good idea. They kind of soured it for me at the time, and never really revisited it.
There were a few different attempts at reselling things from like auctions. The last business was going to be a boat repair business. Which the boat repair there was a huge need where I was at, then I moved in the middle of it and just folded things. Didn't quite make it to having a customer either. Was getting fairly close though I would like to think.
I have probably too many different hobbies at this point and it is quite an eclectic mix of things. The core one though I think is that I love to learn new things even if they are in vastly different spaces than I normally work within. Some of my for fun hobbies of late though revolve around outdoor activities, like Sailing, scuba, free diving / spearfishing, hunting, hiking, etc (and is the reason I have dumb debt).
Recently also signed up at the local trade school to take welding classes. Since the majority of the cost of the program is covered, I only have to pay course materials and the registration fee, as well as my time. I figured I wanted to learn to weld for a while so it seemed to work out. As for anything fastlane, I need to figure out what I am doing.
