This isn't Fastlane, but just about a guy who really really really wanted to be a fight commentator.
In midst of all the McGregor/Mayweather hoopla, you might see this guy (Robin Black) doing commentary for the UFC:
His story is pretty interesting because it is a good example of someone working hard for many years, and finally beginning to accomplish their dream. His dream has been to be a martial-arts analyst, and after many set-backs, he finally is becoming one.
If I can trace his path, it goes like this.
First he was a hair-dresser in Canada (everyone looked gay in the 80s):
Then he was a punk-rocker:
He wanted MMA experience, so he became an MMA fighter (in his late 30s):
Then he went to work for Fight Network:
But was fired when it was shut down:
So he started doing analysis from his basement:
Until the UFC recently invited him to do some work for the McGregor/Mayweather fight:
At 11:15 in this official UFC promo, Robin makes debut working with the UFC:
And with the news that UFC fighter/commentator Brian Stann is going to leave MMA to work on his MBA, there may be a permanent spot for Robin at the UFC:
Anyway, I can't help being happy for the guy, especially after seeing him making podcasts from his basement as his last bit of money ran out. Hopefully he will finally be able to be a part of the UFC.
