I currently rent a bedroom for myself, make around $35,000 gross a year in reported income (most of which is deducted on my taxes), and I have about $15,000-45,000 a year in side income under the table. An opportunity popped up for me to get a HUD subsidized apartment (which I qualify for) in a nice area downtown. I already have a place I live in and like, but I wanted to use this HUD subsidized 1 bedroom unit as a short term rental. I know the property manager and we worked out that I would be OK sub-leasing or doing an AirBNB out of it, but since it is being government subsidized do I run any legal risks?

Well you can probably lose your Section 8 qualifications and get booted from the program. Maybe you get busted when the Section 8 inspector comes to do an inspection and someone else is there?
