I just thought of a great business idea, but I'm not sure if there would be a market for it. I know that it would provide a solution to a problem that effects 2 different industries, but I don't know if it's a big enough problem that there would actually be demand for the services that this business would provide. I know that the work this business would do would lower the PETA factor for both industries involved becuase I have heard several people from both sides complain about the other side on many occassions. My industry sometimes depends on this work to get down or they don't get paid, but the other industry involved doesn't get paid to do the work, so they often put it to the bottom of the pile. This business would provide a middle man type service where my current industry gets what they want and provide a faster turn around time to it's clientelle and the other industry wouldn't have to any of the work for it.
From my experience in my industry and the in brief discussions with a friends in the other industry that it would effect, this may be a business that could expand across Canada and possibly in other countries as well. While I'm not sure if this problem is a global thing, both industries are global industries and it's fairly safe to say that both industries will be around as long as people inhabit the earth (unless they find a way to make people immortal and no longer suseptible to most diseases, inwhich case both industries would cease to exist).
As far as I could see, this business would have next to nothing for over head expenses (There would be no actually product, just a service, so no inventories...becuase you or more or less a middle person, not many records would need to actually be kept aside from your own billing/accounting type stuff so you wouldn't need much more than a laptop and a method of transportation to run the business, unless it went global)
One potential obsticle in getting this business off the ground is the person and confidential information that this business would be privy to. This business would be privy to confidential information from both industries so I would assume there would be a few legal hoops to jump through to make this work.
I personally would have no interest doing personally providing the services that this business would provide becuase I've got my own things on the go and this work wouldn't interest me in anyway, so unless I could take a "B" position in it almost immediately, I wouldn't really even want to put much more thought into it.
My problem is:
1) Where do I start to get this idea off the ground and see if it's worth persuing? Should I start at the local level and talk to people on both industries? Start with patenting the idea if it isn't already (if you can even patent a potential service that has no actual product)?
2) how do I find out if there is actually enough demand for service that both or either party would pay for it to be done. Hire a marketing company to contact local businesses or go to higher levels like regional or national offices that might make the decisions.
Any thoughts or ideas? Anyone want to buy my idea for a million bucks?
