Living in Houston means long drives, endless humidity, and a pace that never really slows down. For years, I treated life the same way — foot on the gas, eyes forward, always pushing harder.

Then burnout hit.

Not the dramatic kind where everything collapses. No meltdown, no big moment. Just a slow fog that crept in. The goals I had chased for years suddenly felt empty. Motivation disappeared. Even things that used to excite me started feeling meaningless.

At first, I thought it was just stress or a rough patch. But the fog didn’t go away.

What I eventually realized surprised me: burnout isn’t just exhaustion. It’s the quiet death of an identity — the version of success you thought you were supposed to chase.

For me, that identity was built around constant productivity and hustle. Always doing more. Always pushing harder.

When that collapsed, I had to rebuild differently.

Instead of trying to overhaul everything, I started ridiculously small.

Five-minute walks when the Texas heat finally broke in the evening. Turning off podcasts in the car and just listening to music. Saying no to one extra commitment without feeling guilty.

Tiny things.

But those small moments reminded me something important: progress doesn’t always come from pushing harder. Sometimes it comes from slowing down long enough to figure out what actually matters.

Ironically, stepping back gave me more clarity about life and business than constant grinding ever did.

Curious if anyone else here has experienced something similar while chasing bigger goals.

Did burnout change how you think about success?
