I just read an article about new robots for farmers. They have machines that creep through the crop fields. They weed the crops through identifying the individual weeds, and frying them with a laser beam. They also can also plant seeds and apply targeted fungicides and pesticides to pests and fungal infestations. For those pests and fungal problems, it uses about 90% less chemicals. No more wide spread spraying of chemicals. And the machines don't disturb the soil as much, conserving top soil. Even tilling the soil may go into the rear view mirror in time. -- which will protect the bio-masses in the soil.
And these robots are creating a new rental business. The person with the machines can provide that service for the small or larger farmers. That's an idea that can be a start-up and it can be scaled. Think fleets of robots and franchises. This whole robotics industry is about 5 years old. It's going to completely change the growing process.
Robotics is also being used for hydro-farming in green houses using no soil. Those operations can be used near population centers year around with almost no human labor. I wonder how long it will be before we have them here in Alaska where almost all our food must imported.
