I came across this blog post by means of Quora.
The part that interest me the most is the claim that there are two types of growth.
Growth from boredom
Growth from anxiety
I've gotten use to the boredom aspect. I'm bored, I want to learn something. Lets go play chess. Or I'm bored, poker my be fun to learn.
However recently I gotten a taste of anxiety based growth. Two times actually.
I started a website a few months back. It failed, I ran out of capital to feed it, but I learned a lot in a short period of time.
More recently, I had vehicle problems. I didn't have any spare cash laying around as I quit my job back in November.
I did however has access to the tools I'd need to fix it.
I learned from the anxiety of not having a car.
I can now take the motor out of my car and put it back in, if necessary. It probably wouldn't take me more than 2 hours to do it safely and with out breaking anything. I've never done more than an oil change before this happened.
I found out that when placed in a very uncomfortable situation, I learn faster. Much faster then I do when I'm bored. I also don't tire as easy.
I'm constantly moving because I have to not because there is nothing else to do.
Don't allow boredom to creep in over top of you. Jump into the deepest, darkest part and swim or climb back out.
