Good afternoon guys, I’m here to pitch my idea of what intend to build. I’ve been looking to build an app specifically for uni students. This app will not only allow them to socialise and network with other students in their uni and nearby uni’s but would allow them to connect with students from all over the world. The value I intend to bring is a platform of introduction to adulthood and “youth wisdom” amongst the younger generation where they have a place to express and tell their various stories and advice to others who are left to decided whether they want to internalise it or not. It allows them to understand that the world is much bigger than the dorms that they are in and also gives them endless opportunities to learn about what they’re doing in university as well as what they should expect coming out of it too. My main focus now is learning how I would get this app globally recognised if it were to be created. I welcome any criticism as this is a rough idea of only a couple months.Kind regards.

Here's my OPINION:-

Global recognition can only happen if you're successful locally first. Get successful with 1 university first.

About me: At the time of this posting I'm a zoomer with no business exp yet, so see my post in that context.

It would most likely be with ads or in app purchases such as 1:1 mentoring with other graduate students.

Hi,

Speaking as somebody who hasn't been to university (might still but unsure), here is my input as one of your potential customers/ideal demographic (just to add I do NOT have any concrete business success, however, I have hosted music events in my own local city successfully and do have experience in marketing/events promotion, which did involve advertising and finding customers/attracting people to the service, we started locally then moved to another city or two. So to clarify this reponse you are getting is from somebody who would be more of an ideal customer for you rather than someone who has a business per say -

Personally, I think you have a very strong idea. Basically, you are looking to provide a service to younger folks or folks who may be undecided/will be joining/are curious about attending university, right? And the app would connect them with students/former students who will be more experienced with university and can help/lend some insight? Correct me if I am wrong, lol.

It certainly sounds very unique and as there are so many people in these undecided situations and often feel a lot of pressure when deciding about uni, it could fill a gap in the market. I would sign up to it if I didn't have my partner to talk to as she has graduated, so maybe you could also think how you might be better for someone than them going to a friend for advice? How can your app help them MORE? Or maybe you only want to target people who maybe don't have people around them to lend the advice and that way you can niche down a bit. Also, sometimes schools bring in a post-grad student to give insight and answer pupils questions in a classroom, so how (and I am sure you can) can you make your service more valuable than that? Maybe by making it more personally tailored like you sort of mentioned already.

For advertising and going global, I would agree with someone else's response, focus locally first and on your community/nearby area codes and see if you can get some people to subscribe/pre-pay for a membership etc.

I am also looking into following up an idea that involves delivering a service via an app but in a different industry/different topic etc. If you would like to stay in touch then drop me a message.

Hope the above insight helps.

Hi,
Maybe it is too late but I am a student right now and I think I can help.
Idea is great in essence, but I cannot see much distinction between it and facebook groups or Reddit threads.
It would need great marketing to make people understand what problems it may solve.
And it should be really easy to use and connect with other students, because if not, facebook groups will still be the default choice.
Good idea might also be to check if someone is actually a student and mark it on the site.
To sum up, great idea but you have to think about execution.

Sounds like the reason why Facebook was created, except now its 15 years later.

In reality, any new social media service seems to be for young adults, so I'm not sure if there is skew here.
