I'm about to embark on the beginning stages (for the fifth time) of advertising for/marketing my business.
For some ideas, I've turned to Dan Kennedy's The Ultimate Marketing Plan, which has delivered and given me some good ideas for marketing, one of which being direct mail advertisement.
However, I feel compelled to double check on this one. How exactly is direct mail advertisement done? Is it a matter of looking up addresses (using phone books, etc.) and sending ads to these addresses, or is there another step involved?
Also, similar to spam, isn't this a good way to piss a lot of people off who don't want "junk mail"?
