While I read Unscripted in 2018ish it obviously didn't stick because I am a well paid slave.
On the outside people think I live an awesome life. I have a house near the lake with a beautiful view, a pad in the city, 2 investment properties (the only piece that that generates any sort of non-hourly income) and a consulting business that I have to work in hourly to make any sort of money. Given the industry (IT) Covid really was a boon for revenue, but working 60+ hours a week isn't sustainable or fun, no matter how much I say to myself I enjoy it.
But more importantly, it is an empty feeling that I have to deal with. Mortgage payments, taxes, car payment etc, I am slave to all of those that want something from me, not to mention wife and family pressures.
In my 20s I thought I was headed in the right direction, and wanted a business before I was 30. I thought I would feel better and live a better life but all it has done is make the noose around my neck a bigger one. But my 30s have been living the script, mediocrity (disguised as success) and just "letting myself go" in all aspects. I had vowed never to "settle" and settle I have.
The compound effect was that as a 5'10" ish dude, I ballooned from an unhealthy weight of 185 to 220+ lbs.
In late 2022, I decided I need change. The first thing I started to tackle was my health and fitness. I had been "tackling it" for my whole life but the results were crap. I needed a change. Well I put the right support systems in place in the kitchen, in my relationship, in my friendships, and my clients to start being able to add healthy eating and working out. While I am only 1/2 way to where I want to get to in terms of body fat %, my health metrics are vastly improving and I am trending in the right direction. The goal now isn't a certain "vanity metric" but a routine of treating my body well physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Its a journey but in the right direction.
As I have been reading Unscripted again, and realizing I have not put any of those lessons in action, I decided that it was time for me to join a community of like minded individuals, to start to and build the businesses that are scalable that provide me the freedom to make the decisions that are based on what I want/believe/desire/give me purpose.
I have proven to myself I can achieve the things I set out to do, and as long as I keep an open and honest mind to myself, I see no reason why I can't live the life I want to live.
