This could really be posted in a different area but I find it most helpful when working with established brands/products.

It is absolutely not a thorough market analysis, but it is a quick test that can help you to make a fast decision on whether or not your idea is worth pursuing. In this scenario, I am wanting to become a distributor of a product in another country, so I want to know how much demand (if any) there is for that product in my desired country.

Please note the below is an example and not something I'm actually considering.
  1. Load Ubersuggest.
  2. Search for the company name, being as unique/descriptive as you can while keeping it as short as you can. I'm searching for "XXR", as I am interested in "XXR Wheels".
  3. Click "View as Text". These are your keywords, I have found 333 of them.
  4. Copy the contents of the text box.
  5. Login to your Google AdWords account and visit the Keyword Planner.
  6. The keyword planner will ask "Where would you like to start?" Select "Get search volume data and trends".
  7. Under "Option 1: Enter keywords", paste in your keywords.
  8. Under Targeting, select the country you want to find volume for. I'll choose "New Zealand"
  9. Click "Get Search Volume"
In my example, around 400 people per month from the region I'm interested in are are searching for these keywords.

Is that enough volume for you to convert? That's for you to decide.

Hope this is helpful to any of you. If you have any questions, shoot.

This is a great method for finding out what your
keywords are.

I wondered why no one wrote about this simple
method on this forum before.

I use this and Google Suggestions to decide
what to write about on my niche site.

Then traffic comes :)

This one simple post is gold I think.

Yes exactly, this is traditionally a high-level method of finding traffic for a website. I see a lot of blog posts on people buying Facebook ads to send them to a squeeze page to sign up to a mailing list to decide on interest for a product, but that can be a lot of work/overly complex (especially for those new to online work).

Like you said, the key here is simplicity. Should you make significant business decisions on this information? No, probably not, but hopefully it will stop people wasting time on products with no demand, or even better, fuel the fire when you discover that "this product has HUGE volume, awesome".

Marked noteable until more people try it out but I concur [HASHTAG]#goldwatch[/HASHTAG]
Ha, thanks.

I should have added a disclaimer: if you don't have an AdWords account it may take closer to 4 minutes.

Thats right. If you are afraid of the message, that you need to start a paid campaign to get access to the tools of Adwords:
Just fill in all the details Google want from you, set the costs to 0,10€/$ and after setting everything up cancel your camaign. (you can choose to stop the campaign and start it again later or cancel the whole campaign instant)
Thats it. :)

The delightfully titled http://keywordshitter.com/also does a great job of digging out those long tails, though once you go 500+ you might want to quit unless you've got days or a team of VAs to filter it all out.

Keyword Researcher is a nice way to get everything if you're as obsessed with tracking as this fool.

I used a similar method in assessing possible blog niches. Even in highly saturated markets you can still find fairly uncontested areas with lots of traffic. I'm working on one at the moment. Not my main area of focus, but it's an itch I just have to scratch.

For instance, the niche I found and am working on has traffic in the hundreds of thousands per month for dozens of keywords, the competition for these keywords is low and there are only a few really poor blogs specialising in this subject. It's an area I have expertise in as well and happen to enjoy so I think it could be a good opportunity.
