Hello! I've been a lurker for a while on MJ's telegram group, having read Unscripted a couple years back and loved it.
I spent two decades playing in the corporate world in IT, peaked as the development lead on a $10M mobile avionics project back in 2015-2017, and thereafter was exposed to the dark side of the corporate world: Reorgs, cutbacks, massively dysfunctional IT projects with too many people on them doing too many disorganized things. I only got laid off once -- I took a new job in Feb 2020, a few weeks before Covid hit, and since I was a contractor we all got furloughed. I simply bounced along into a new job using my contacts.
My problem wasn't finding employment, it was getting stuck in positions that didn't challenge me professionally. I actually really tried and changed jobs more than once, taking a risk on something new. For whatever reason it seems like the interviewers would lie or misrepresent the company/project/situation to me, every single time I got in, it was way worse than I imagined... I'm an intelligent person and I want to use my mind. I found myself working with a lot of low IQ corporate drones.
So finally I had an opportunity to exit the corporate world this year, after having saved like crazy the last 3 years, and set myself up in a situation to give myself the most important asset: Time, time to think, time to do things. Time to write, time to start up new ventures (maybe). And a workable amount of financial security.
My business that I started up on the side the last two years was unfortunately based around helping remote workers, and the past two years the corporate world has been eviscerating remote workers so finding clients would be very difficult. (I had one, and he got pushed out of his job because he didn't want to return to the office).
Now I'm here with an open mind (and open heart), ready to explore something different and maybe create some new opportunities along the way. Ready to play in the space of ideas and dreams, and learn more.
