Here’s a progress thread
Finally internalized this will take longer than I want and shifted my thinking to 10 years vs everything happening at once. Also recognizing that my first business probably won’t be my last so I’m gonna focus on process as much as possible.
Realizing everything I’ve tried so far hasn’t resulted in actually providing any sort of value to anyone so I looked at my close network of people.
A good friend of mine owns a small but growing specialized welding company and I realized he has almost no online presence, outdated website, incorrect information on Google business profile with three different profiles actually, personal cell phone on Google as well as directories like home advisor, yelp. No reviews, no contact information on his actual website aside from a bad RFQ form, unverified Google business profile.. the list goes on.
Mind you he had no idea about any of what I just mentioned.
In the last week and a half I built him a new website in antigravity, walked him through getting his business verified on Google, made a better RFQ form, helping him purchase and set up a zoom phone account with call logging and voicemail transcription that gets sent to his email for documentation, going to help him acquire reviews from past customers and anything else that might come up.
Still waiting on final website edits from him and to get access to his GBP in order to update with the new info.
I’m doing this to get my feet wet and to learn how to actually help and provide value for another business and learn literally anything/everything I can.
Was inspired by @Dark Water with the simple website/hosting offer and @Andy Black to just help someone as the first step. For some reason that’s been incredibly difficult to actually understand that’s as simple as it gets.
I just needed to start. I’m doing it with intentions of learning his industry more and niching down as well as growing and providing more value to him as his company grows.
I’m not confident in pretty much all of what I’m doing because I’ve never done it before but I am confident that I’ll learn and adjust quickly.
I have no tech background aside from really using/building within antigravity almost every day for the last 6 months. So I don’t really know what traps there are within what I’m doing for him already and what even makes a website “good” vs ai slop.. I want to provide a kick a$$ service!
I’ve learned most things by using AI but after using it so much I take some of the instruction it gives with a grain of sand especially when I catch it hallucinating. It’s an amazing tool but it’s not a human that has been there.
I don’t know what this will turn into but I had to stop pretending I was making progress.
Going to meet him right now to figure out the website edits
