I guess, bro. But the book does address that point in terms of having what people want as "bait" to have them be interested in you and listen to you. What you're basically doing is boiling it all down to that one chapter (there might be more chapters expanding on this idea but I do remember one clearly).
Not a perfect analogy but take driving.
It's like saying the only thing you should focus on with driving a car is on the gas pedal because that's what gets the car moving. Also, learning the ins and outs of your car is for dorks. Despite the fact that driving a car has many moving parts like gas, oil, steering wheel, brakes, mirrors, turn signals, etc. "But just use the gas pedal, dog. Why are you making it so complicated?"
Having what people want is good bait, sure. But socializing, making friends and having influence is where you actually roll up your sleeves and put your money where your mouth is. If you don't know what makes a person tick during conversations, adhere to their selfish ego desires in terms of verbal communication, how to make them talk and open up, etc. you don't really have much leverage of influencing, let alone making friends. The bait will only get you so far.
If you have a mansion and can't make conversation for shit, you'll have people tolerate it just to get to your mansion but can you even really call that "friendship"?
I understand what you mean in a sense that just applying the principles willy-nilly can make you seem like a sperg and there are times you can "break the rules". But it is a gold primer for beginners and it's also a solid book to return to get a refresher. To me that book is level one of external skills, then afterwards you have to actually put in the work to make your personality shine through and make it authentic to you, otherwise you'll become a people pleaser.
