Good day to everyone who happens to come across this page!
My name is Spencer, I've been born and raised in the Midwest USA. the journey that took me to this page is quite long, but I'd like this post to serve as a true introduction to why i'm here and what I am going to accomplish, and what I can offer anyone who may need advice or assistance.
I struggled immensely my first years at university (2012-2013), nearly dropping out 4 semesters in a row. this time in my life is what I believe was my rock bottom. I did a lot of things I'm not proud of during that time, but it eventually led me to my "brick wall moment" the period in my life where I realized that I could no longer continue on the path and lifestyle that I had been on.
It was then I transferred universities, and in a period of 3 years I was able to achieve things I had never thought possible, all from simple confidence and determination. I currently work for a medical research facility designing economically viable clinical protocols for Governments and hospitals, and it has been an amazing experience. My biggest passions are: Traveling, Improving the lives of as many people as I can, and Learning.
I have traveled throughout the USA, Including Alaska and Puerto Rico. I have had the opportunity to explore Alberta and Ontario, and recently returned from a life changing trip to South America.
My most recent trip struck a chord in me that I didn't know existed. I was hit with a perfect storm - experiencing the culture and lifestyle of Colombia, while getting hit with a 30% pay cut at the exact same time.
I saw so much, and felt so much, but the end result is that I know I can no longer continue on this path - I need to go, to travel, to learn, and to bring the talents I have to the places of the world that need them. for many companies, I will always be nothing but a required hire, a drain on their budgets.
My goal is to leverage my talents, education, and network to develop infrastructure, healthcare/ economic systems, and fully utilize modern day technology to provide everyone I can with the best possible access to life saving treatment. (I will likely talk more about this as time goes on).
So, what have I done since my revelation (March 2018)?
I'm cooking with Jet Fuel. Petal to the metal, and I'm not stopping. I missed the thrill of working non-stop everyday.
- in less then one month, I've received an offer letter (and Accepted) to study my MSc. International Business at a University in the UK. I have also received a significant scholarship and will be leaving before the end of this year.
- I've sold all my things... literally everything except my laptop and clothes (even my car and house)
- I picked up my old high-school job busing tables, I'm now working 12 hour days, 80+ hours a week.
- I've summed up a pile of money that I'm hoping to leverage as start-up for an opportunity that I'll either create, find, or be offered.
I currently feel like that moment when you push the gas pedal all the way down, take your hands off the wheel, and close your eyes... How long can you go? how fast can you go? do I have what it takes?
The reason I'm writing all this is to offer an unapologetic view of who I am, because our motivation and the emotions we experience define who we are, what we are capable of, and what we will ultimately achieve.
with all that out of the way, I'm here to seek the advice of people who have much more life experience then me, and who can offer me their expertise and guidance to making a difference.
Thank you.
