How to be safe and invisible on the web?

Hey Guys,

first of all thank you guys so much! This forum is the best ever! I am 21 and I do affiliate marketing. So I have some websites.

Something weird happened to me yesterday. I got a text from a guy that he found out about my websites. I didn't believe him so I told him that he should send me my domains. And he did but only 3 and I have 4 websites. He even figured out what my email is. I recently just bought 3 new domains like 2 weeks ago and he knew them even that one of them has no content. He said he used "rapidgator" the website. 2 days before that I told him that I have a website about hemorrhoids. I guess that was a mistake.

But how the F*** did he found out what are my websites? Was he looking for my IP address or I have no idea. I am angry but I somehow can't do anything.

I use Hostgator and he knew the email I use there. (my login email). I also have included my first given name in my email (which I guess wasn't that smart).

Here is my question. How can I be safe/invisible on the web? I mean is there any IP address hider or changer. Is there anything where something like that can't happen again? I hope some of you guys know some software or programs or whatever or even some tips. I appreciate everything.

Thank you so many guys and keep up this awesome forum

Ps.: By the way, this dude is a hater and has no life if he has time to look for my website

I think that when one registers a .com (and maybe other) domain it's possible to see your contact details. I got quite a lot of spam after registering a .com domain and accused my domain provider of leaking my contacts. It was actually not their fault and I could pay extra money to make them hide my contact details and use their own e-mail or something publicly. That may be what happened to you?

I think for the basic stuff one can be safe/invisible on the web with proper setup, caution and tools like Tor and Tails. But it's not trivial..

Ah. My favorite side of the world. You know, not all web hosting/domain providers hide your identity when you purchase a domain or a hosting service. Maybe you should try Google Domains as they mask it for you. Others would mask it for a year and then you have to pay extra for them to mask it.

Also, if you purchased web hosting, make sure you have secured your database from snoopers like that guy. I snoop websites too and see if something's out in the open. However, I don't exploit other people's properties (most of the time). Lol.

If you want to hide your IP, you need VPN or a virtual private network. You can also use TOR Browser instead of the common Chrome or Firefox browsers. There are also apps/extensions for browsers that you can use. To add a layer of security, use TOR browser and a VPN. If you want to be invisible, it will be a bit of hard work as I would advise you to use aliases for every website you join. Never use the same username and password. Basically, think like a hacker or a cracker. ;) Use disposable emails (but be careful), never use your real DOB. Get a virtual address or a PO Box, and the list goes on.

Maybe you should buy a fake ID at the dark web. I'm kidding. That's probably too much for this.
Anyway, I'm curious... What was his intention when he messaged you?
