Hey Fastlaners,
Three weeks ago I posted here as a "failed Amazon/eBay seller turned China guy" with a static landing page (taotradeagent.com) and a lot of questions. You gave me exactly what I needed — brutal honesty.
Quick recap of what you told me:
• Stop calling yourself an "agent." That's a broker mindset. Position as a product development / supply chain partner.
• Don't charge % of PO — that's a race to the bottom. Build a real service with upfront project fees + ongoing retainers.
• Your website isn't a business card; it should qualify leads and filter out time-wasters.
• Stop targeting "guys trying to dropship." Target founders who have revenue and a real product idea but zero manufacturing knowledge.
I listened. I rebuilt everything.
THE REBRAND: Your Sign Partner (www.yoursignpartner.com)
What changed:
1. Name & Positioning: "Your Sign Partner" — the idea is I'm not just finding you a factory. I'm your on-the-ground manufacturing partner in China (Suzhou-based, 20 mins from Shanghai). I help you go from sketch → sample → production → shipment, without you ever having to fly here or deal with 3 AM WeChat chaos.
2. The Website: No longer a digital business card. It now has:
• A portfolio section showing actual factory visits, product samples, and production runs I've managed.
• A client intake form (not just "contact us" — actual questions about their project stage, budget, and timeline).
• Clear service tiers: Product Development / Supplier Vetting / Production Management / Quality Control & Logistics.
3. My Network: I've spent the last 3 weeks doubling down on factory relationships in the Yangtze River Delta — CNC machining, electronics assembly, textiles, packaging, and light industrial. I now have direct lines to floor managers, not just Alibaba sales reps.
HERE'S WHERE I NEED YOUR EYES AGAIN:
A. The Website Itself
Does the positioning actually land? When you land on yoursignpartner.com, do you instantly understand who this is for and what pain it solves? Or is it still too vague?
B. The Intake Form
I added a project qualification form to filter leads. Good move, or am I creating friction too early? Should I capture emails first and qualify later?
C. Client Acquisition — This Is The Big One
My current plan:
• LinkedIn outbound to DTC brand founders and Kickstarter alumni who just raised.
• YouTube short-form content: "Day in a Chinese factory," "Why your supplier is ghosting you," "The real cost of making X."
• Cold email to product design agencies in the US — they have clients who need manufacturing but don't want to handle it.
Is this the right beachhead? Or am I missing a channel where the actual pain is highest?
D. Trust & Proof
I don't have 50 client testimonials yet. What I DO have:
• 15+ factory relationships with real contact names and addresses.
• Video walkthroughs of production floors.
• A "First Production Run Guarantee" — if the first order is a total disaster due to my supplier vetting, I eat the cost.
Is that enough to get someone to pay a $2-5K project fee? Or do I need to offer a "Factory Audit" mini-service first to build trust at a lower price point?
E. The Long Game
My real goal isn't to be a fancy middleman forever. I want to eventually co-develop products with US founders — where I bring the manufacturing execution and they bring the brand/market. Has anyone here made that transition from "service provider" to "equity partner"? What did that path look like?
I'm not here for validation. I'm here for the next round of punches. If the site sucks, tell me. If the strategy is weak, tear it apart. I can take it.
Thanks in advance.
