Was just going through my old iPhone notes and found this one liner from early 2019 when I started my Ecom business that I would eventually end-up selling:

30 units/day - $10/unit = $100k/year profit

Crazy how ideas become realities. That specific business ended up averaging 150-200 units/day.
That's freaking amazing. And you're doing another one now, right?

Business is not for the weak or lazy. From the outside, things may look smooth but inside it's always a battle. Nothing is ever easy. Someone smart once said "business is a war but without bullets", I agree.

Anyone reading this who's already an entrepreneur (many here) will likely think "well... duh, captain obvious". But I still chose to write this for the few who don't get it. I am a RE developer. One of our deals took a year to negotiate, yes a year. Fast forward a few years, and a few bigger deals we were lucky to get a shot at a site that is 10x the next largest deal we've ever done. Lucky is the right word, because after that it was (and still partly is) a major roller-coaster: up and down. The UP is when you think "holy shit, this is going to be great, massive profits, smooth sailing" and the DOWN is when you hit a wall "if I don't fix this mess, I'll lose a lot of money! F*ck, why did he/she do that!?!. Get to work. Find another problem, and another...". From the outside, when we complete the deals and the world notices, there is an article and an interview etc. We look like that's just what we do, it's part of the norm. And it is, but it is anything but easy. You must have nerves of steel when faced with potential losses to course correct and get back to saving the deal. And if you are just starting out thinking "if I only get past this launch phase and make a little money... it'll get so much easier" - you are both right and wrong. It'll be easier because you'll develop some form of light immunity to stress and you'll have experience to calm you down. But it won't get easier in real terms, the level of problems you'll face will elevate, stakes will get just get higher.

I don't care if you are selling widgets at $1 a pop or real estate at $1M+ a unit. It's the same thing. You scale your business, you scale up your level of problems to solve. Not just for your customers, but your inputs, process, negotiations etc.

Being unemotional and effective in light of adversity... having GRIT - that's the key to success in business at any stage.

Listening to @Kak episode on leadership made me think, he's right! To solve that next level of problems, you must have employees - it just cannot be done any other way! And then add to this a post by @MTF on how people are weak and you have an opportunity of a lifetime for younger generation. You don't need to be great to succeed in getting a great job, you just need to be good now. Your competition isn't that great. And we lack good people in the right roles. Baby boomers are not just retiring, they are dying of old age too. There is a gap.

Work on your mental toughness and the world opens up doors. Develop grit and you'll succeed.

Work on your mental toughness and the world opens up doors. Develop grit and you'll succeed.

And if anyone's wondering how to do that, here's David Goggins's take on this (my transcript from one of his podcast interviews):

So everybody asks me, how do you develop mental toughness? How you develop mental toughness is becoming hard. How do you become hard? It’s doing shit that you don’t want to do. So most people live in this nice, comfortable place that makes them feel really good. The temperature in the house is 72 degrees, they have a refrigerator full of food, everything is great. Everything is great and they always ask: how do I become hard?

You sure as F*ck don’t become hard by living that way. You have to take yourself out of your comfort zone and bury yourself in something that makes you feel so horrible that you have to see how your mind is thinking in that horrible situation and overcome it while you’re in shit. That’s what makes a human being hard.

I may have some of that sweet discomfort stuff for sale, yo.

I am filling in a spreadsheet with some details and making graphs and collecting data and stuff. This is absolutely painful. I can't believe I used to do this sort of thing in an office cubicle for nearly 3 years!!! People do it for 40!!!! I have been doing it for a few days and I already feel my brains leaking out of my ears, and I am not even doing it for the full "9-5" either. Ugh.

Or you can just say "F*ck this bullshit game, I'm outta here" and go do your thing. That will teach you that everyone playing a stupid-a$$ game loses in the end and the only winner is the one who refuses to play other people's games.

YouTube’s just started showing me all these asmr ecom order packing vlog videos, never seen one in my life until now and turns out there’s millions of them and they all have crazy amounts of views and orders.

So interesting.

They’re kind of the total opposite of all the gurus especially drop shipping ones I’m used to seeing but it’s working for them.

Hand making every product, I doubt they run ads, the websites are pretty but not optimised, fulfilling orders themselves and taking way too much time to do each one. The opposite of dropshipping and scaling and optimising and upselling etc that I’m used to seeing.

These ASMR small business unboxing / packing orders for customers are huge on TikTok.

Yeah I’ve seen a few on TikTok, especially personalisation businesses, there’s one that sells towels and people always write dirty things on them which makes for viral content.

I’m actually thinking of starting something very similar with a laser printer, I’m just going to give it a week before I go buy a printer to see if I still want to by then.

It’s an idea I’ve had for a long time but had no idea how to market until it all clicked these last couple weeks when I started doing tik tok for my current business. It’s an entirely new product though so I’m not sure if people will buy it or not. Why I make things hard for myself by picking unique ideas instead of just selling hoodies or dropshipping I don’t know.

One of my privacy-minded friends turned me on to OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence), which are a set of tools, tactics and resources for digital forensics that are available to anyone (not just law enforcement).

The amount of data people leak on a normal basis is staggering. Also if you're really good at this and can help law enforcement catch criminals who are on the run using digital tools, then you'll be rewarded for the tips.

You're sort of a digital private investigator. Fascinating field.

Risky job but lucrative if you're good!

So as much crap as I give Canada, the nature really is amazing. I found a new gem which is only a 37 minute drive from my house! I think I found a new mountain to explore, there are an absolutely huge number of trails on it, and it brings up the difficulty a significant amount.

ADD: I was reading the David Goggins thread in this forum, got angry, but don't want to derail that thread and pour cold water there, and this thread is a good random rant thread, so here goes:

-----------------------------------------
David Goggins is basically the muscle version of Gary V. I thought people already saw through GaryV's BS and now we've another. Hustle hustle hustle to madness. Hustle culture. That's what his brand is built on.

You're sick with a 104F (40 degrees) fever and vomitting non-stop. You're a poosy and you're WEAK af.
There's no such thing as a fever or sickness. Put on some shoes, go climb a mountain then take part in an Iron trialthon. Be hard, get hard! The "fever" is all in your mind, it's just an excuse for you to be lazy. Hustle harder! Buy my book, listen to my podcasts where eventually I'll have a course coming up and you can sign up through my David Goggins website.

Tai Lopez attracts his fans by subtly showing off his lambo and house while walking and talking in his videos, aka the Millionarie Playboy.

Gary V, in his vids, shows himself walking around fast from one office dept to another, running down the stairs, walking here to there, up down left right, he's always in a damn hurry, he has no time to eat or sleep, he swallows his gum because he can't spare 1 second to spit it out. All while giving motivational talk.

Goggins shows himself running and sweating under the hot sun while giving motivational speeches with these tough aggressive hand gestures and body language.

Then you haven't seen Andrew Tate videos yet:hilarious:

Guy simply claims that cooking 'is for poor people' and all you need to do is to buy rotisserie chicken from
the shop-- woof it down-- and continue hustling.

Funny how some "journalists" are so blinded by reality, and their so-called "experts". What we have here is an entrepreneur who might be a threat to a variety of big institutions. So we better call out the big guns and write an article and, don't forget to include a bunch passive aggressive political side-swipes.

I know Canada is a bit different, but are we so ignorant that we don't see any "profit motives" behind the trillions in government policy, pharmaceutical companies and healthsickcare?

I can say that if I live to 100, it won't because I followed traditional, mainstream medical advice.

While I appreciate the skepticism in alternative medical strategies (yes a lot of them are probably bunk and perhaps dangerous) but this article stinks of projection, the actual elitism it tries to associate to the venture itself. It stinks of "don't think for yourself -- leave that to your government funded professional." Of course, we include a little of the "look at what these rich people are up to" vibe. SMH.

The author of this article has obviously never jumped into a lake in the middle of winter. I don't need "slippery science" to tell me whether or not it will make me feel good. I know cold exposure feels good. You get a goofy grin on your face and feel amazing for a while.

Paying $ to watch other men get some physical activity and make money in the process while you come home with nothing and $50 less in your pocket.

Watching games.
