I posted this question at the end of another thread, but thought I should post the question in its own thread.
It is so easy for my company to get a lot of media/press coverage in any city we travel to. Last summer we were in the newspaper, on the local news, in every city we traveled to. And even made the front page of the paper in a couple cities. We gather huge crowds in any town where we surf. We were just recently featured in a story that was broadcast during the BSU vs Hawaii football game on ESPN(millions of viewers). We get LOTS of media exposure for our brand. My question is this - Why is it so hard for us to find a corporate sponsor? We would love to promote a partner brand while we are out promoting our own brand.
I think the problem is that there are so many people after these companies - "Hey Red Bull, I can land 20 kickflips in a row, sponsor me" - that they have built big walls against this kind of solicitation. One answer to my question is to hire a good PR Firm. Got any recommendations? I read a bio on Damon John a while back and something that he talked about was stopping at nothing to get a celebrity to wear your brand. Even camping at their house. Well there are lots of celebrities that surf in the ocean. We would love to get one to come to Idaho for a 3 day, rafting, surfing, camping trip on the Salmon river. So who on this board has phone numbers for Matt McConaughey? Justin Timberlake? Ashton Kutcher? At least some addresses, so I know where to camp.
