When to invest?

So in The Millionaire Fastlane , MJ described how investing in indexed funds and the stock market for wealth is what the slow-lane does. The fast lane invests for income and wealth preservation. Knowing all that:

Do you still invest in the stock market?

Or

Do you invest in your own skills and business and only invest once you're making more than $X? IF so, what's $X?

Or

Do you do both?

Also

As a student who doesn't have a business, which should I prioritize and why?

Did you read the whole book?

In the last chapters MJ explains how you can finance your lifestyle and your money system when you still own your business.
When you have sold your business you should focus to keep it by investing it(example: bonds).
