Last year we discussed the merits of Kickstarters most successful launch ever, the Coolest (http://tinyurl.com/pjhftbu). It was especially intriguing as Ryan’s first launch of his Mark 1 version tanked.
Today I came across this:
http://tinyurl.com/ok8aapx
A much simpler and easier startup that, although not setting the world on fire to the same degree as the ‘Coolest’, shows what can be achieved with a simple idea executed well.
Think that a lot of the success of this product is down to an extensive and thorough marketing campaign? Think again. Facebook seems to be the only one that has a modicum of success and that is probably mainly friends sharing. The rest of their social media efforts suck. The Website itself is also very basic http://www.magzook.com.
This has all the hallmarks of a low cost enterprise funded on a boot string. Yet, through the power of Kickstarter, this business could easily achieve 500k in turnover in its first year if they use the social proof of demand to market to large online and offline stores. This time next year their business could easily be worth 1m+.
Food for thought? Still procrastinating over your first startup? Hopefully this will give you some inspiration to get off your arse and get creative.
