Can't complain too much about the journey on this ball, I have a lot of things a lot of people don't. Breath in my lungs, a wife who loves me, nice place with a pool and occasional toy money. I've gone as far as a back breaking work ethic will take me. Now it's time to use the head.

Came from a construction background. Worked for GC's, did my own Class C thing on the side, 80 plus hours a week most of my life. Landed a job with the City of Virginia Beach at age 29. Outworked everybody around me, honed my leadership and administrative skills and went from Carpenter to Supervisor to Operations Coordinator in 4 years. Fast forward to age 35, I'm second to the Administrator of Bldg. Maintenance in the largest City in Virginia, managing facility maintenance and capitol improvement of 800 municipal buildings, around 5 million sq. ft. with a team of 170 employees. That's a lot of bureaucracy, HR work and a definite change from the real world, cut-it-or-see-ya private sector. Pay and benefits are decent for the slow lane, but this son-of-a-sidewalker can do more.

I have an Irish/Gaelic quote framed with the meaning of my name and a picture of me when I was about 5, my mother gave it to me when I was young. "Brian. One of strength. Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand is to make great, and to give strength unto all." 1 Chronicles 29:12

That's exactly what I intend to do.

Welcome.

In the private sector, people make a shitton of money selling things such as janitorial services.

And just like I expected a quick google search gives me a ton of facility maintenance companies for private sector buildings ;).

Yeah and one thing I've learned working in both the public and private facilities sectors is that it's a broad, huge market full of service gaps. In my current job, private companies bring amazing ideas to us all the time trying to get the City's business. It's a really cool seat to be in, we almost get to play shark tank with all the hungry startups looking to get our business.

Looking forward!

I really liked this intro post.

@B. Cole you've got a really unique, entertaining tone in you're writing.

It'll come in handy when you have a business with something to sell.

but this son-of-a-sidewalker can do more

This made me laugh out loud. I think you just coined a new phrase.
