I, like everyone else, have used AI extensively to write. In my case, I use it mainly for email replies and proposals. When I'm writing fiction, I tend to use it for names of people and places because that's the kind of heavy lifting that GPT is really good at. I also feed my ADHD by asking it random stuff like, "Why is diesel named after the inventor (Otto Diesel) but petrol (gasoline) isn't?"
But recently I've noticed something, there is a certain "flavour" to the GPT replies that I can spot a mile off. I wasn't sure exactly what it was but I knew it was something. I started seeing it in YouTube comments and I've noticed a few on here, I can pretty much always tell when someone has used GPT or equivalent to answer a question; I often reply to the comment with a, "Thanks, GPT!" Nobody ever denies it, so I assume I'm always spot on.
The other day I watched the video below and the guy articulates exactly why it is easy to spot a GPT comment from a mile off! He puts perfectly into words the feeling I get when I read an AI comment. He puts two examples of a human comment and a GPT comment into his video, and then invites his audience to guess which one is which. The first I got from reading one line and the second I managed to get from just hearing one word!
Now, for most of you, this doesn't matter. Who cares if the product supplier, or customer that you're emailing knows that you've used AI to answer them? However, there are many examples whereby you may not want the recipient of your missive to know that you've used assistance. Sometimes you want to come across like you have worked on your approach, or reply, and have steered away from the temptation of AI assistance. If that's you, or you want to know if someone has used AI, or perhaps you want to stop your copy from sounding like everyone else's, then watch the video below and you'll start spotting that AI fingerprint wherever you read!
