I was listening to an audiobook while driving earlier and the book read like this, "It's not enough to be at the right place at the right time. You have to be the right person at the right place at the right time."

He goes on to ask, "So who are you? How do you think? What are your beliefs? How confident are you in yourself? How well do you relate to others? How much do you trust others?"

While listening to this a concern rose up in my mind and it is in the regard of relating to others. Over the past year I have adopted a pure fastlane mentality. I have no desire to hold a job and even have gone as far as to talk to my kids about whether or not they should even attend college. I plan on moving my family across the country this summer for a "permanent" move to Texas. As I talked to friends and family about this decision I realized that the way I think and live my life is almost shunned to most everyone I've been around for years. They can't believe we are relocating without jobs and think I'm nuts for telling my kids there's no need for college unless they want to be a doctor.

With that long winded speech my question is this, how does one go about connecting with people that are like minded on a regular basis? Are there localized entrepreneur networks in cities where you can connect and befriend those that fall outside of the social norm?

It's a common teaching that "you are the average of the five friends you hang around most" and "never be the smartest person in the room". It's important I think for everyone to get around empowering people that are great support systems and also mentors who can nurture and challenge you to grow. What is an effective way to do this in an all new geographic area?
