Hey, ya'll. I'm a 31-year-old (self-taught) software engineer out of Atlanta and I'm glad to be here.
I am currently living the slowlane life and I'm doing okay enough, but I've found myself wondering "Is this seriously it?" Granted, my life is cushier than most and I get paid well to do relatively little work, but I feel like I can do more. I found myself thinking "Why should I do more to make someone else rich? Why should I keep letting these companies profit from MY brainchildren and implement MY ideas to increase value for THEIR shareholders?" That's when I decided that I wanted to make enough "F*ck you" money to reclaim my time. I went on YouTube to look up advice on building passive income and came across a video about financial independence. The guy recommended The Millionaire Fastlane and a few other books but said "If you read nothing else, read The Millionaire Fastlane ." I picked it up and immediately resonated with it.
I just finished TMF last night and I feel both energized and vindicated. Energized because only took me about a chapter and a half to start actively working on getting my fastlane business running and it was nice to get answers to the questions that were cropping up in my head along the way (MJ, you really thought of everything, huh?). And vindicated because I'd already instinctively known and had already been living out many of the fastlane principles. I simply lacked the self-confidence to put anything into motion and believed that it was "too late" for me. The world has sort of successfully conditioned me into believing that women over 30 don't have much to offer the world so mindset shift will be a tremendous challenge.
I'm excited about where I'll be in just a few years. I've already decided I will be retiring before 40, so I only have nine years to go.
