Hey guys,
I'm getting close to completion for a couple of my leadership and personal development seminars. I have a few ideas to get things moving but I'd like it if any of you had some ideas how to promote myself for (paid) gigs.
Here's where I'm at so far:
1. Seminars within my Dojo.
I have a large audience, I do small speaking for 5-10 minutes every class for the kids and adults on personal development. I also occasionally do goal setting workshops and other seminars Saturday afternoons. It ends up being the same 10-15 people that come to them.
2. University of Minnesota
I have some contacts to be able to set up a seminar at the U which would be a good gig, non-paying of course but it puts quite a name on the resume. Getting people to attend may be a challenge
Once a speaking engagement at the U is done, I could potentially go to speak at some of the local businesses for free saying "I'm looking for more speaking experience outside of education".
But my question is, what are some of the ways I could promote myself for paying gigs? Word of mouth is definitely going to be key I'm sure, but how can I get that word of mouth started??
I will be attending some more toastmasters meetings next month with my new staff on board I can focus more time on this dream. I have looked into joing the National Speakers Association but I'm not sure I really want to be involved with them. They charge an awful high rate for (seems like) nothing.
Interested to see what y'alls thoughts are!
