Well, after liquidating all my stock holdings to donate to charity, I'm ready to start on my goal. I've kept just under 5K for my plan (only 15% of my whole portfolio). I've started my own blog to document my progress and here is the first post. I've crunched the numbers for a few days, (I have no life), and I figure I can make this a reality by the time I turn 50, give or take five years. Tell me what you think
.....I don't even own a computer with internet anymore, because I've been told I have to pay for everything and anything including the roof over my head at some point....looks like all be at the library from now on ;
So this is my first post starting a blog. My goal with this blog is to show the world that anything is possible. What do I mean by this? Well, in this post, and future posts I will be chronicling my efforts to attaining a net worth of 100 million dollars. Do I think that I can do this? Of course, or I wouldn’t be taking the time to write down my progress. Am I intimidated with the thought of amassing a 9 digit net worth? Let’s put it this way…I’m more intimidated when a girl talks to me than I am of passing a millionaire or even a billionaire in terms of net worth.
Why do I want to achieve this goal of joining the super-wealthy? Well there are many reasons but I’ll only name the predominant one’s;
1) I want to change the world into one that I can honestly say I am proud of. The society that we live in today, is not one that I would want to live in tomorrow. So many things need to be changed, including human rights, animal rights, deforestation, global warming, cures for the worst diseases affecting life today…….really the list goes on and on. I would use a large portion of my newfound wealth to help those who need it most. (I was inspired to do this by many people, including Oprah with her show entitled “Oprah’s Big Give”). I’ve also learned that time is more valuable than any sum of money, which is why I will not only provide the donations to many worthy organizations, but I will be able to run a marathon for charity, or simply volunteer at a soup kitchen…the possibilities are endless.
2) Secondly, I want to create opportunity, not only for myself, but for the world. Whether this means employing some 10,000 people, starting an environmentally conscious company, or removing grossly overpaid CEOs from their horribly managed positions (shareholder activism).
3) Third, what guy doesn’t want to show off their hot new cars? I want to use a minute portion of my wealth to purchase a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, and a Mercedes. I also want one of those Swedish made cars with a base price of 700,000$. Those one seater cars that look like Formula 1 racing cars are cool too, so I’d definitely want one of those. I probably won’t own all of these at once, because that just seems like a stupid waste of money.
4) I want a private jet. I’ll start off with something like a light jet, and move my way up to one of those executive business jets. I would be leasing it out on the side also, so that most of the money put into it is recouped.
5) Who doesn’t want a beautiful home? I’m thinking it would be nice to live on star island in Miami, or a gated community anywhere tropical really. Right now I live in Montreal and during the winter the skin condition I have gets rather annoying. (in the summer too). It’s awesome when I go to Florida and it disappears after a week. So for the benefit of my health, I MUST move to a tropical climate, and what better place than that good old sunshine state.
6) I’d love to write articles for major financial and business publications, as well as do TV spots to give investors and everyday people advice on how to make their dreams come true.
7) And finally, I want to give hope to people who’ve been told that they can’t achieve their dreams. If I’d have been given a nickel for everytime someone has told me that I can’t do or be who I want to be, I’d already have a net worth of 100 million dollars.
So this is basically how my posts are going to work. At least twice a week I will update my status on what I’ve done to move closer to my goal, and I will have my current net worth on display for everyone to see, with a breakdown of where the money is invested, (sorry account numbers are not included!). I encourage comments and experiences both good and bad.
