Hi all,
This will be a weekly thread where I share updates on what I’m working on and what I’m learning along the way.
So — Week 1. Let’s build something.
I have a degree in mathematics and recently started working a 9-5 job in market analysis. I don’t have a large budget to invest, but I can put aside a few hundred bucks a month to invest in myself — courses, ads, website tools, etc.
Last week, I started working on a project with a friend. He creates really understandable learning materials in the field of mathematics, and I’ve joined in to help distribute that content and write some of my own. I’ll focus more on the "learning how to learn" angle — the early stages where students often struggle and waste time with inefficient methods. Later goal is to build a simple program to help with that - get the difficulity at the edge of uncomfortable where most learning happens, but not to overwhelm a student.
I tried editing a pre-built website last week, but didn’t get the functionality I wanted, so this weekend I’ll spend time learning basic web design to build it properly.
That’s it for Week 1.

Background
I have a degree in mathematics and recently started working a 9-5 job in market analysis. Current Work
Right now, I’m building a website where we’ll publish the materials and related blog posts. My friend will handle social media focused on the lessons themselves, while I’ll focus on learning methods and broader educational content.I tried editing a pre-built website last week, but didn’t get the functionality I wanted, so this weekend I’ll spend time learning basic web design to build it properly.
Mid-term Goals
As suggested by @MJ DeMarco in his planner, I use a top down approach to set up goals. For this quarter, my main goals are:- Launch a fully functional website with regular content
- Set up social media account and post regularly
- Create a newsletter and start collecting emails
- Have at least one online purchase (though materials will be free to start)
- Use @Andy Black 's project testing approach by using Google Ads (check interest/competition in US and Europe)
- Set up buttons on the site with "comming soon" message to test interest
This Week
- Learn basic web development to build a working site
- Start writing content — educational and engaging posts
That’s it for Week 1.
