My personal goal for 2019 is daily 15 minutes meditation

I've bee able to do average 8 - 10 minutes of meditation for 80 days. I recently took a break for a week or so since my family are visiting and it's kinda like a family gathering house now, sofa sleeping and stuff. I will resume meditation in 2020.

My goal more specifically is.
  • Improve from 10 minutes to 15 minutes meditation.
  • Meditate without checking the time (reach time limit naturally)
  • Do it for > 80 days (breaking my old record)
I have two other goals, first related to health "O/T: HEALTH - Does anyone count calorie intake?" & another about creating good habit "getting rid of bad habits in Personal challenge - no porn, no coffee, more discipline!" but let's nail the meditation goal first! Greatness comes from small improvements! I posted this before elsewhere in the forum, but wanted to created a separate thread to remind myself.

I started one of my mini goals for 2020 two weeks ago. Today I had an aha moment. I'm giving away, throwing away or cleaning up one thing in one of my businesses or in my home every day. I want to end 2020 with less stuff. I tend toward being a minimalist. Today as I worked on cleaning out and organizing my storage room at one of my businesses, I was suddenly worried. What if I run out of stuff to deal with before I run out of year? Then I laughed and laughed at myself. If I run out of stuff around here that needs my attention, the goal is finished. I'll be done with cleaning up my life and surroundings. And I'm amazed at how much I have done in the last two weeks. Some days I have spent a couple of seconds. Other days I've put my shoulder into it.

You're probably asking yourself what this has to do with operating my businesses... I've already cleaned up a whole bunch of paperwork and bookkeeping that has been nagging me. (Yes, there is a desk under all those papers.) Part of my larger goal is to keep up with the day-to-day chores... which means less overall stress... a clearer mind... fewer attempts at multi-tasking... and making more space in my life for the important things...

I have lived a minimalistic life for awhile now......I can almost say that I can move around with two big luggage and check in in any hotel. It has helped me get rid of distractions and make my life more lean and more focused. Clearly I need to ask myself better what has I accomplished from this minimalistic life (clearly I have benefitted but I need to know better myself) I wish you luck in creating minimalism in life too!

I led that minimalist life for many years when I was a professional single. My sons were grown and gone. I was on the road all the time, so I had no pets, no house plants and everything was under control. And, I hired people to keep things going while I was gone working. Since retiring, I cared for my mom until she died, married very sweet man, took over the failing family business and rebuilt it, started more side businesses, and my husband came with 2 young kids -- who are now grown and gone.

My life has become very messy and full of stuff and problems. I've been dealing with all these changes as I've had a few minutes to pay attention. In 2020, I want to spend at least a few minutes per day moving more toward a minimalist lifestyle. I loved it when I had it. It's hard to keep on top of everything around here. If someone had told me years ago that I'd end up here with this life, I would have laughed myself silly. It's not what I thought I wanted nor worked for... But, here I am -- so I must honor my husband, our kids & grandkids, my day-to-day decisions I have made, and the life that we have built. Then, I can tweak it all a bit...

Congratulations for figuring out what you want, and the good thing is that you have done it before. I realized that when I have less material items, the more focused I am in life, I guess that's why the Facebook Mark says it helps for him not needing to know what to wear daily, he just wears the same clothes.

Thanks for your response.
It's a good winter-time project. ( I live in the arctic and it was -16 degrees this morning.) Summers are too busy and short to do this kind of work. I'm almost a month into my program. Today I took a huge load of stuff over to a charity in a neighboring town. And that's just the latest load. I feel rather OCD about doing all this work. It's causing a lot of chaos around here. But, at the same time, it's starting to show progress. The part that interests me the most is re-purposing stuff that I've owned for a long time. I'm also moving a lot of stuff around to different spaces. I'm starting to have empty shelves, drawers and open spaces. I'm rethinking my life.

Re-purposing and getting rid of stuff I don’t need. I move around about every two years and the physical and mental unloading helps for life of an entrepreneur.

When I moved cross city, it gave me the chance to get rid of things. I realized there are so many things we don't need. Some people feell pityful for me, they sometimes think I have

I can't believe how much I've gotten done during the last month. I know I still have a LOT more to go concerning my different businesses. (Each has its own messes to clean up.) I've been myopically business building just about 24/7. Yes, I've hired people to do some of the organizing for specific issues from time to time. (It hasn't worked very well.) Yes, I've started and stopped several times -- as opportunities and emergencies washed over me, overriding my resolve. Yes, the messes have been bugging me. So, this time I just trying to do something big or little every day toward my goal. I taking daily baby steps and I do have an assistant helping me a few times per week. It's starting to show real progress.

I keep reminding my husband that I need a good wife to do all this stuff for me and keep me organized. He just laughs and shakes his head at me. Followed by his, "Yes, Dear," -- punctuated by another chuckle. But, my husband is impressed by my recently completed projects. ( I've been giving him guided tours of my accomplishments when he comes into my office for lunch each day. )

OK, just a small update to make sure I don't slack.
  • Improve from 10 minutes to 15 minutes meditation.
I do 10 minutes or more nowadays....
  • Meditate without checking the time (reach time limit naturally)
I still end up checking time......
  • Do it for > 80 days (breaking my old record)
On my 9th day...many more days to hit record!

Note: I went for a meditational yoga class, in those classes people can just do 90 minutes without noticing, but when alone it's a different challenge!

Checked back journal and realized that it was March 2019 that I made my other resolutions.
  • No coffee
  • No FB
  • No porn
  • No fap
I am proud to say that I have achieved all four!

Note: for porn and fap, it's not a total quit, I average once or less a month, which is a major thing considering that I used to do it every other day....

2020's resolution is about getting meditation right! Maybe a few other things, but let's start with getting meditation right first.

It's still hard for me to preserver for 15 minutes, I still stop at 10 minutes or so but I am enjoying the process more. On one instance I actually recalled my childhood memory during meditation (I know I am not suppose to think of things) and those memories help remind me why I became who I am, like what people say "your childhood makes you..."

I am managing 15 minutes daily now, but it's really a wandering mind.... I do try to focus on the red spot on my temple, or try to breath deep.
