Hi All,
I am creating a Kickstarter campaign with a former work colleague/aspiring Fastlaner for a new type of survival pack. While it's been progressing really well, we've hit a wall in trying to turn our technical sketches of our product into a realistic 3D rendering/"cool" look. Essentially, we need a designer to make our crude (but functional) prototype aesthetically appealing.
While we found concept artists and 3D renderers, many are requesting figures 1,200 USD and above in addition to 3-5% intellectual property rights (per item sold). This is money we don't have. However, we found one designer- a former animator for Nickelodeon/Cartoon Network- that is instead interested in equity (percentage of company profits). Given our budgets (practically at zero), and the way Kickstarter works (you only get the money if it gets funded) this potential equity is the only card we have to offer.
My question: What percent is reasonable to offer in a situation like this? This designer is responsible for our product's image- which is a massive responsibility- however, this is trading 20 percent of the company, indefinitely. We initially offered 10 percent of the company, but he didn't bite.
Thank you for reading,
Tim
