Just wanted to post an opportunity I spotted for some quick hustle money for my fellow Kansas City residents. This also applies to anyone else in cities where Google Fiber is coming in so keep it in mind for future major metropolitan areas.
The Problem: Google is digging up everyone's yards to lay Fiber. They are kind enough to put down some kind of seed and crappy green nylon netting to get grass growing again. However, this is the really wrong way to do this if you want it done right. The netting is going to be stuck in the grass and unable to be removed and the seed they're putting down is most likely crap.
The Hustle: Follow Google's crews around the different affluent neighborhoods where green lawns are the standard. Knock on doors, charge $50 per tilling/seeding installation (make sure you know what you're doing). You can/should also leave behind an little info packet on watering schedule otherwise the grass will 1. not get started or 2. die in the heat without watering.
It was easy to identify as Google just came through our neighborhood and my dad had a sh*t fit about the seed and netting. He used to mow/landscape commercially so he knows what he's talking about. I told him about the hustle idea and his eyes lit up with dollar signs. Unfortunately he's too getting too old to be out hustling this deal for himself in the heat all day (he's 71) and I am currently pre-occupied with my own fastlane business/other hustles. His recommendation on seed is a mixture of Tall Grass Fescue found at Grass Pad.
There is obviously a small barrier to entry with this in knowing how to actually get grass going from seed. Hopefully someone can put this to good use. Should be a pretty solid hustle for a little while since literally every house will have dug up yard sections, but you have to be quick behind those Google trucks. Good luck.
