I just wanted to share with this forum A great documentary I saw in online “ Jiro : Dreams of Sushi†Anyone on this forum seen this ?
I am putting this thread here because to me it’s about mindset and one man's PASSION in refining and perfecting his process, truly inspiring. Mods ..if you feel that this should go somewhere else on the forum than i have no problems with this
Jiro Dreams of Sushi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It a study of an 85 year old sushi master in Tokyo Japan who is still PASSIONATE about his work and pursuit of perfection . This is what my take out was from the documentary .
At 85 years old this guys still gets up at 5 am heads off to work and does not return home till late in the night.
His son At 50 is still hoping one day to take over the restaurant but will always be living in the shadows of ‘the pursuit of the perfect sushi†of his 85 years old father..fascinating
The take out for me here is nothing related to fast lane processes in entrepreneurialship.. After all Jiro has a restaurant that only seats 10 people but what I found fascinating was his pursuit of perfection in the PROCESS of making the best tasting sushi …. At 85 he is still working to improve on his process in refining all steps to making the perfect sushi ..from sourcing all the best ingredients, how to boil the rice, different cuts of TUNA (maguro) , the delicate balance and texture of the taste ..truly incredible.
What I found amazing is that his apprentices work under him for 10 YEARS before they are allowed to touch any fish! 10 years! jeez....
THE EVENT for JIRO was that he was the only sushi restaurant to achieve 3 Michelin stars for his amazing sushi whilst having a restaurant with only 10 seats. It's an incredible feat to be awarded 1 or 2 michelin stars..but 3 ....
I have always agreed with this is that if you are passionate about what you do it will be your choice whether you retire or not .you have an inner drive...this documentary for me was confirmation of this.
As I am out here in the UAE I was able to only watch it online and stream it .. I am sure that those who are interested will be find it and watch it…
It’s thoroughly enjoyable study of a man, his unrelenting passion/drive and his pursuit of excellence .
I would be interested in your thoughts if anyone has seen this.
Thanks,
Arrabista
