Over time I've heard several comments that buying ads/PPC is more expensive than it used to be, including threads like this: https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/fastlane/39434-secret-left-out-millionaire-fast-lane-book.html. I had a past client who was in the business of ad arbitrage and has apparently had a hard time earning anything for the last few years. I've heard other stories as well of people who were doing that a lot but stopped.

That all makes me wonder... is the pricing advantage of online advertising going more towards the publishers than the advertisers these days? I'm not very experienced in this, I've bought about $1500 in ads over time and just got my first click today on a side project that I'm monetizing initially with adsense. For those who have been doing this for a while, do you see a change happening? Does this make it more attractive to start a content-based business where you sell ads, relative to an affiliate/arbitrage business or anything where you buy ads?
