We live in the 21st century and I find it quite appalling how a large portion of humanity lacks basic needs, and access to primary education (the ability to read and write).
Now, I realize that simply giving them what they lack won't do much good. We need to empower others to help themselves, for now and forever into the future.
That being said, they still need help.
What do you think is the problem that needs to be addressed first in order to improve the quality of life of people living in extreme poverty?
What's my first step in improving the lives of people in extreme poverty so that they will have the means, and the empowerment to improve their own futures?
I know the situation is complex. They need the ability to produce their own food and income. They need access to clean water and medical treatment. They need basic education in order to become literate.
...Where do you start?
Yes Microlending (Grammeen bank, kiva, etc) are effective for adult empowerment, but how do you help children, especially children without parents due to Aids or other diseases.
