Depends on the case.

-Mass retrenchment in oil and gas due to tough economy of the sector a few years ago. I know a friend in this case.

-Meeting the KPI. Thats very common in banking. Once time bad performance additional training is given. Then verbal warning. Then written warning. Then off you go.
