My experience working with databases is with a Miva Merchant shopping cart for a client whose website I'd developed and maintain. This client has a physical store.
From what I've seen over the years, when i used to come to the back office to update and maintain the website, a greater amount of sales have been taking place online and with orders taken over the phone opposed to people walking into the store.
As new products [DVDs, books, magazines and the occasional calendar] come in, I not only create the webpage for it, but I also enter the information for each product into the shopping cart database and crosslink it to the product webpage, so that customers to the website can go from the product webpage into the shopping cart and make their purchase.
At anytime I can log in to the shopping cart and see what products were ordered, when, and how much was spent, along with email addresses. What I would like to know is how would I be able to monetize this information?
