I’m a guitar teacher by trade. I’m 36 now, and I started out at 19, gigging and teaching privately. While I loved playing live, I found that teaching brought in more reliable income — so by my mid-to-late twenties, I leaned fully into that.
For years, I focused on 1:1 lessons, but there’s only so far you can scale that model. After a few failed websites, I eventually launched one that took off. I started a YouTube channel teaching guitar and it gained traction — I’ve now built an audience of over 175k subscribers with 23 million views to date. These days, I earn from guitar courses on my site, sheet music royalties, and a bit of YouTube ad revenue.
When I was teaching privately, I earned around £30k ($41k) per year. Last year, the business brought in £115k ($156k) — a massive upgrade and a game-changer for me and my family.
That said, I’m beginning to feel the need to pivot.
The online guitar teaching space is becoming heavily saturated. There are now countless guitar courses online — they’ve essentially become a commodity. And algorithm dependency is real. I’d like to move into something with more long-term leverage.
One pain point I had for years was creating polished, repeatable lesson materials for students — especially ones that looked professional and saved time. So I’m thinking of growing a library of done-for-you lesson packs that teachers can use with students of all ages and levels. Cleanly designed PDFs, ready to go. Packs would be sold individually, in bundles, or via a monthly subscription.
The vision is to create the go-to resource hub for guitar teachers — both for high-quality teaching materials and community advice from like-minded tutors.

- Expand into other instruments (piano, bass, drums, ukulele, etc.)
- Translate packs into multiple languages
- License materials to music schools and academies worldwide
Applying the C.E.N.T.S. framework:
- Control – I own and operate everything directly.
- Entry – Very few creators are doing this; most focus on social media exposure.
- Need – Teachers waste hours making materials. This solves that.
- Time – It’ll be a grind to build, but long-term it won’t rely on me.
- Scale – Massive potential across instruments, countries, and education systems.
