its been a while since I posted here and a lots changed.
at the moment I am working with a homewares/pottery manufacturer, they have a few unique qualities about their products to gain a small amount of interest, and the factories that they make their products from are from England ( the home of fine bone china ), where most companies in this niche now operate from china and have poor quality, for the quality and authenticity of the product there isn't anybody else out there that can do the same really.
so that's all you need to know about the product really, I believe in it being from England myself, however I am selling this in NYC.
I have gone to the most obvious/less challenging stores where I would consider them buying, and I have had good results so far, the main pattern is that all they care about is price, literally it seems like I could undercut any product on price and i could sell them anything.
now I want to get serious however, I want to get their product into TJ max, Marshalls, Bed bath and beyond and get larger orders (I get commission from the repeat orders too).
I did F2F sales for 2 years so I can talk, but I am a complete newb at dealing with these big faceless companies.
My 'pitch' at the moment is very simple conversation "hi, I work for a British american company and I have some products I believe you will be interested in, whos the best person for me to talk to? *place sample on table*"
If anyone has any related experience or just textbook knowledge with either big box or small retail stores, let me know what it was like for you and how you would go about setting up a meeting with the right people at a big box
