So my main site is a few weeks away from beta testing-- everything is looking magnificent. The other night I got hit in the head with an idea to help my site hopefully gain some media coverage and press-- and if we execute it like a champ, gain some loyal customers right from the start.
I will be creating an online goodwill store where people can list clothing (shoes shorts pants shirts jackets hats etc) and sell them for dirt cheap. Its different than other sites because everything will be sold at a fixed price-- $5. I know I know, what reason do people have to list their old clothing for dirt as opposed to going to a different site and making some money off of it. It's because all money-- 100% of it will be going to a charitable cause. It will be real clear that everything is in the name of charity. People will be more inclined to part with clothing they don't wear anymore if they know its going towards a good cause-- at least that is my hope.
How it relates to my site-
Since I will own the code of my main website (obviously) I am going to duplicate the code and make some minor tweaks to make it functional as an online goodwill store. The color and them and overall feel of the site will be identical to my main site.
It will be real, real clear on the goodwill website that my main website (Astuno) is the parent company and put this whole thing together.
Once that is all done I am going to write to every press release and do everything I can to get some PR and media coverage on the site. I honestly hope I can raise some good money for a good cause-- but the main idea behind it is to gain the goodwill of the users and drive some media coverage and press over to Astuno.
Costs involved: Domain. That's it.
Even if it fails, money and time invested is minimal.
On the plus side, I can help people in need while driving press and media and users over to my main site.
What do you guys and gals think about this, be honest.
