freelancers for %equity?

Hi.

I have an idea that i think has a lot of potential. I feel that getting a freelance web designer/programmer to build me the website i need would cos high $00's, low $1000's. After that i feel marketing shouldnt be too difficult as i am targetting a small but exponentially growing niche and want to take advantage quickly and be an early adopter. I dont want to explain the idea but if they could build an simple online gaming, forex site they could do what i need.

Unfortunately i dont have much money to invest (i have about £3k left and dont have a job) and would like to find someone that could work for a % equity. Whats to stop them starting a clone and owning 100% and putting their efforts in instead?

Or where could i find investors willing to risk low $000's on an idea but no track record or online business experience.
