Exchange advertisement with non-profit organization

I was reading Kung Fu Steve's post about Advertising Gem, free of charge! It is an awesome idea to advertise your business that way!

I am thinking if it is legal or a good idea to exchange advertisment with non-profit organization.

I would like to promot non-profit organization's banners ad on my web sites for people to see while getting some press release on their web site or printed material.

I am also thinking how to get mentioned on TV and radio show. Is it a good idea to promot a local TV station or radio station or become a sponsor of the station in exchange to get mentioned in their show?

I am trying to find the most inexpensive way to advetise my business (web site) offline.
