Hey guys,
i thought it would be quite funny to introduce myself with a german phrase in the title to an english speaking forum because i am german and as you can already tell we have a good sense of humor over here...
Ok sorry, that was terrible... i apologize. I guess you already hate me.
Anyway, i registered my account a few weeks ago as i read through TMF and felt the immediate urge to introduce myself while being ecstatically thrilled to pronounce how i will change myself and become successful and provide value to the world and just sound like any other idiot which you never hear from again 24 hours later as MJ describes in his book. So, i stopped doing that and focused on doing shit in the real world. (which i will talk about later, or in another thread, not sure yet).
After finishing TMF i read UNSCRIPTED almost immediatly after and i have to admit that i really love these two books. Currently i am rereading chapters of unscripted as i need some reminders about some topics while working on my first project.
As this is a thread to introduce myself, i will talk more about myself and what has brought me here than explaining my current business project.
Despite the fact i am thinking that nobody here is interested in my story, i still write a little bit down of it because i have no friends, purpose, goal and feel the need to express my feelings of being a special little snowflake which is permanently misunderstood to strangers on the internet. (i said our humor is great, isn't it?)
Since i was 13-ish i thought i have to do something that i am absolutly be in love with to make money. Until a few months ago and before reading TMF i still hold on to that belief. With 13 years (i am 25 years old btw) i got introduced to 'counter strike'. A first person shooter which i really learned to love and became pretty good at it to be honest. From that day on, i wanted to become a 'pro-gamer'. Getting paid for shooting other people down in a video game. Living the dream. Today, this is still the goal/dream for many young teenage boys i noticed. Sadly, my parents told me i should stop screaming at my monitor while smashing the keys on my keyboard. Ok, after some time i told myself that the whole gaming industry will eventually fade away anyways and not enough people will become interested in watching other people battling each other in a video game... well, guess i was wrong... big time.
After quitting my dream of 'turning pro' i dived into my next big passion: Design. I went to a school for 2 years to get a degree to be some sort of a 'graphic design assistant'. Sounds terrible, but these 2 years were some of the best i've ever had. After school when i got home, i started Photoshop and teached myself to create cool effects by learning online tutorials and creating own images afterwards. I was so excited in Design that i really wanted to be a great graphic designer. One day near the end of my 2 years when i wasn't attending at that class, someone in my class asked my teacher who would be a great designer one day. He only named me. ME ! My current girlfriend at that time told this to me a couple days later. I was so happy and proud of myself. I was learning passionately until an 'echo' in the real world appeared without even realizing it.
After these 2 years i worked for barely one year at a design agency and began to hate everything i loved.
I realized i had to enslave myself to working countless hours for a boss which was the biggest dickhead i've ever met. I've never felt more depressed and unhappy.
Then i realized you can make money playing online poker... (yay!)
Long story short: i won 4k$ in the course of 2-3 years. ( i don't wanna calculate my hourly wage)
In that time, my passion for design still not vanished completely. So while i imagined myself playing against Phil ivey at the final table of the WSOP Main event while my friends and family were cheering me up, i studied media design.
I never made it in the world of poker and realized i never will. And i'm okay with that.
After quitting poker, a time span of 2-3 years appeared where i've never had something like a 'passion'. I was extremely uncomfortable with that fact. I always believed i had to become extremely good at something to become rich some day. So i started to think about ways to find a new 'passion' which will open the doors to financial freedom for me. Until this day, i haven't found one, but listening to MJ's advice made me realize that i never have to in order to make money. WHAT. A. F*ckING. RELIEF!
Right now, i am still studying to become a teacher for design someday, while i'm creating my first business. Never ever in this whole F*cking world will i become a 9-5 slave. Never. I absolutly hate the idea of sacrificing my life in order to make just as much money to pay my rent and buy food. Who invented this shit by the way ? However, MJ talks about the F*ck THIS EVENT (FE) in unscripted and that many people like the idea of being an entrepreneur but never feel the fear or pain which bites them in their a$$ to get them out of their rut of mediocre comfort. I always was such a lazy a$$ dude when i haven't been passionate about something. But my FE happened to me approximately 2 months ago and since then, i have worked at every single opportunity at my project. If you ask yourself: What was your FE dude ? What happened? Well, since it was never my plan and i also wouldn't recommend forcing this just to have your 'F*ck this event', my current girlfriend pissed on a piece of paper and told me afterwards we are going to have some sort of 'threesome' at the beginning of 2018...
Somehow, and this might sound like overly spiritual, hippy, wishful thinking that the universe will guide you, i still believe it was a form of a wake up call for me. I know this may sound ridiculously corny to many, but i believe at the end it will save me from being a depressed slowlaner who fights traffic day after day, yelling at strangers in front of him while realizing he never pursued the things he wanted in life and never will.
@MJ DeMarco: somehow i missed a part in UNSCRIPTED where you talk about opportunities to work with investors while remaining control of your business. Maybe i read through it too quickly, but i think i didn't find a chapter about it, or maybe you never originally intended to write one. I'm currently in a situation where i need to find an investor to make progress in my project and i haven't found a solution for that yet. I will create a thread tomorrow about that topic and will go more in detail about my problem. Right now i really have to sleep after writing this 'introduction thread' for 2 hours...
for all who read so far: sorry for my english, it's a bit 'plain' i guess 😀
Oh and also, thank you for taking the time to read. I hope i can give you a lot of insights and value with my journey, as i plan to document everything with my own thread.
Gute Nacht!
