Has anyone successfully develop and launched a directory website and charged for addition to the directory?

For the record, Directory websites meaning sites like: TherapyTribe.com or similar type sites.

How hard or costly is it to get the initial content ( meaning the data to fill the directory in the case of TherapyTribe.com the names of the doctors, phone, etc.)? How full does the directory have to be before you launched the site? I am sure a empty directory is a bad idea.....

Can or did you make money with your directory sites? Did you spend money on advertising/pr or did it grow organically through search traffic?
