You know, it's ironic, Jim.
Up until the last two years of my life... I would've never thought that I'd like copywriting and advertising.
Without ever giving writing a try.
I disliked copywriting and advertising.
I held the majority mindset; advertising was evil.
For me, copywriting and advertising had the used-car salesman connotation attached to it.
But ever since I picked up and read my first:
Claude Hopkins, "Scientific Advertising"...,
Gary Halbert, "The Boron Letters"...,
and David Ogilvy's "Confessions of an Advertising Man"...
I became addicted.
Although I'm a software developer by trade.
There's something about copywriting and advertising that makes me stay up all night,
Rested against my bed headboard, with a small blue bedroom lamp, shining bright unto
the current copywriting or advertising book that I'm reading.
(Don't forget about the "Jazz Lounge Bar" playlist I have going on through my Spotify app as I'm reading.)
Does anybody else feel this excited or fascinated by copywriting and advertising?
As of now, 1:32 AM, I'm reading: "How to Design Effective Store Advertising - M. L. Rosenblum National Retail Merchants Association (1961)".
They brilliantly show the entire process of how they make advertisements such as newspaper advertisements.
Here's one that I find beautiful!
And another...
There's a ton more!
And of course, the purpose of copywriting and advertisements isn't to entertain. But to make sales.
But in this discussion, let's celebrate the advertisements that both: Design/Layout is well done, and was successful in sales.
What are some advertisements you'd like to share?
Do you prefer older advertisements or newer?
Please include pictures.
