Welcome again!

As I mentioned before in my intro thread I want to briefly introduce my idea for business. Together with my dad we import cars/motorcycles/boats from USA/Canada to Poland for over 2 years. It's a pretty good way to earn some money because most of these imported things are quickly sold. The main problem is that we are limited because everything is founded first by us therefore we have to wait quite a long time to get money back.

In my opinion in Poland there are more and more people who want to buy some of things which we offer, especially premium/luxury cars or boats because there is a real difference in prices compared to prices in Poland. We haven't advertised our business yet and we sell everything via polish auction website so to be honest people don't know about us.

Now I find I can improve this business. My main idea is to build web platform with some great functionalities which will provide unique customers experience during the whole buying process, and then start advertising it. By this way we will not have to freeze our money instead we could set constant fees for each transaction, so that we will be able to import more and more things and speed up the whole process.

It will be my first business project therefore I want to gather some opinions from experienced entrepreneurs. Each opinion will be truly valuable for me. Thanks and have a nice day!

Poland is doing very well economically. The fact that you can't keep up with the orders, probably means you're sitting on a gold mine

Any ideas how you would do this? Would you use an existing platform and customize that or build everything from scratch? I've made a custom made car dealer website in the past, feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Actually I’m a programmer so I will build frontend part on my own and my friend from work will make backend for me therefore I’m able to implement whatever I want. Thanks a lot for Your answer, if it wouldn’t be a problem I will PM You with some questions. :)

Man, I am not a huge professional on web design, so take my advice with caution. But my gut feeling says that you would not need a huge IT investment to build a platform.

I can imagine that there is some kind of generic solution (something similar to shopify) that might address your problem.

Have you ever researched about what you can find before developing?

Btw, where are you guys from in Poland? I have been to Poland so often that I see it like a third homeland. :)

Thanks for advice. Probably you are right about that it’s not a huge investment, but I made a decision and I will build it on my own with my friend. I’m from Cracow however I want to move somewhere else in the future. :)

Customs fees (10% for car), 19% tax (in Germany because I import everything to Bremerhaven, in Poland taxes are higher), and the worst excise - it depends on engine capacity, 3.1% up to 2.0L and above 2.0L 18.6%. For example I have imported porsche macan turbo last week and excise is about 22.000 zl (6.000$). But you must keep in mind that there are no excise for cars in other countries in Europe, only in Poland.. So i have to throw away 22k :smuggy:

Nice man, I have a friend that lives there. I visit her from time to time. I will let you know, if I will ever be there, maybe we can share a coffee and talk about this stuff. ;)

Hey, I am very close to Krakow right now (Lviv, Ukraine).
If you are looking for extra cash to help purchase the cars let me know, we can discuss a potential partnership.

Hi Alex, currently I'm working on the web app for this business with two other developers so that I have quite a little time for extra things. But there are a few superb cars in transport from USA right now, we still try to do our best. I think we could get in touch when we will end up with our web application and some less important things. If you want to know more just PW me and thanks a lot for your offer!
