Hey all,
My name is Isaac and I've been moving down this entrepreneurial path for a while now.
I went to school originally for computer science before moving to finance (and alcohol) with the idea of getting the BIG JOB.
Somewhere in there I developed a passion for strength training and also became "broken" in the Slowlane sense. I stopped wanting to work for someone else. This path resulted in a Master's in Exercise Science with the idea that I would be a personal trainer and own my own business.
Fast-forward through the life stuff that happens to many of us: Bad relationships, bad friends, hubris, severe depression (from allowing others to make my decisions for me), and all that other shit I find myself:
Age 30, riding back home across the country in my old man's pick-up truck because he came to pick me up and take me home. Over $70k in debt. No job. No money. No vehicle. $134 of cash in my pocket, some of which I had to spend on shaving supplies. And finding myself in rural Maine in the winter after leaving the sun (and potential prosperity) of Charleston, SC and a bad life I'd allowed to be built around me.
I struggled and wallowed a bit about being back home for a bit, I'm not gonna lie, but I decided that I was way too able-bodied and minded to allow myself to end up like this. I decided that I would be successful. At that point I didn't even have a good idea what "successful" meant to me, but I knew I wasn't living it.
I started devouring everything I could get my hands on to improve myself - Business, Personal Development, better Training Knowledge, Writing, Philosophy, and so on. Along the way I found some great mentors and a monster Mastermind group that has pushed me to the title of this post: Ascending to the next level, dominating it, and then expanding.
I've started and built a performance and personal training business to four coaches and well into the six figures. Now I'm in the process of taking our systems online to broaden our reach while also reducing time spent IN the business.
I've tinkered with writing online and doing some online business stuff in the past, with moderate success limited severely by Entrepreneurial ADD and lack of consistency, but it has taught me that online money-making is highly possible.
The end goal is to develop a lifestyle business that will allow a move back to a Southern city within the next two years and a "semi-retirement" within four. I say "semi-retirement" because I truly love coaching clients and at this point don't see myself giving it up entirely, just reducing it WAY down to specialty work.
I just read MJ's book and many things rang so true for me. I've had great success from meeting, discussing with, being helped by, and helping other like-minded people that I couldn't resist checking this forum out.
