I have a mobile home park where I own almost all the mobile homes -- that I rent out. It is a classic productocity. Some of the units are rented with the government's assistance through a Section 8 program. I get my rents the first of every month. I have a community within the greater community. Today I'm 100% rented up with a long waiting list. That's great, how do you get your income? I think people pay rent or do you (or the families) also receive support from local government?
I think social enterpreneurship is a great way to create purpose and value !!
I try to be a good example and create a sense of community. And I encourage everyone to help the people around them. Kids' clothes get passed around from family to family. Extra food and goods are also shared. Neighbors check on neighbors -- and help each other. Squabbles and problems require a sit-down session to try to work them out. That requirement causes many to work it out before they come to me with their complaint. Everyone knows that I evict people who are disruptive and refuse to fit in here. Or I encourage them to move on to somewhere else. I'm blatantly against bad behavior or someone being unkind to another.
I have parties for the kids where we pick up trash and clean up our space. I have an antique tractor with a brush hog for mowing the big areas. I like to do that on Sunday mornings so I get to talk to a lot of people here. We all wave at each other when we're driving on my roads. The kids follow me around. I look like a mother duck followed by all of my ducklings.
And I introduce people to create more socialization opportunities. This week, my disabled veteran lady needed a new PCA (personal care assistant). So, I introduced a lady, who is a PCA, to my vet who lives 4 trailers from her. I checked and it's all working out just fine. My vet was having to call the EMTs when she fell on a regular basis. Now she has help 4 trailers from her. And the PCA can gets plenty of hours and walk to work. They like each other. It's an elegantly simple solution.
I probably telling you more than you wanna know... I've been doing different renditions of this all my adult life. When I was in Los Angeles, I helped start a women's shelter where we took women with their kids -- the first one who accepted kids. I was the Chairman of the Board for 5 years. And I have always worked. I've been self-employed for 45 years. That factor gives me the freedom to do it my way.
